# Finding earlier chats

Getting back to a conversation you had before.

**AI assistants → Recent chats** holds your own conversation history across every assistant. It is private to you.

## Finding one

The list shows each conversation's topic and which assistant it was with, most recent first. Selecting one shows the full conversation.

**Search recent chats** filters as you type, matching both the topic and the assistant name.

Conversations that happened inside a [project](/en/for-everyone/projects.md) are marked with a **Project chat** label.

## Tidying up

Each conversation's menu offers two things:

**Edit** renames it. Topics are generated automatically and are often approximate. If there is a conversation you will want again, give it a name you will actually search for.

**Delete** removes it permanently.

## Continuing a conversation

Opening an old chat shows what was said. To carry on from it, go to the assistant and start a new conversation, referring to what you need.

Starting fresh is usually better anyway: a new conversation about a new question gives sharper answers than reviving a long old thread.

## If your history is shorter than expected

Some organisations remove conversation history automatically after a set period, as a data protection measure. If your older chats have disappeared, that is the likely reason. Your administrator can confirm.

Anything you want to keep should be saved out of the platform. Use **Copy** or **Download as Word** on an answer that matters.
