# Your first day

Twenty minutes that will teach you more than reading the rest of this documentation.

Do these in order. Each takes a few minutes.

## 1. Sign in and look around

Sign in with the link your administrator sent you. See [Signing in](/en/for-everyone/signing-in.md) if that does not go smoothly.

You land on **Starting point**. Look at the menu on the left. That is everything you have access to. It is normal for it to be shorter than a colleague's.

## 2. Ask an assistant something real

From **Starting point**, pick an assistant and type a genuine work question. Not a test question: a real one you were going to have to answer today anyway.

If you can see suggested question cards, read them first: they tell you what this assistant is actually for.

Then look at what came back:

* Did it answer the question you meant?
* Is there a **Sources used** block? Open it and check where the answer came from.

## 3. Follow up

Do not accept the first answer. Type a correction:

> *"Shorter, and in bullet points."* *"Now explain that for someone who has never seen it before."*

This is the habit that matters most. Ask, then refine. It is faster than perfecting a question and gives better results.

## 4. Run a Toolbox element

Go to **AI Toolbox** and open something that looks relevant. Fill in the form with real input and choose **Start**.

Then use the **Refine the result** box underneath to adjust what came back.

If you do that task regularly, star the element. It moves to the top of your list and onto your starting point.

## 5. Attach a document

Back in an assistant, attach a document with the paperclip and ask something about it:

> *"Summarise this in five bullet points."* *"What does this say about deadlines?"*

If the paperclip is not there, that assistant does not accept files.

## 6. Set two preferences

Under your name at the bottom of the menu, open **Preferences**:

* Set your **language**.
* Set your **default landing page** to wherever you will actually spend your time.

## 7. Note who to ask

Find out who administers the platform for your organisation, because they are the answer to most things: missing access, a wrong answer from an assistant, a tool you wish existed.

See [Getting help](/en/for-everyone/getting-help.md).

## What to do this week

* **Use it for something real** rather than testing it. The value shows up on actual work.
* **Notice what you do repeatedly.** If you write the same kind of thing every week, tell your administrator. That is exactly what a Toolbox element is for.
* **Report a wrong answer** if you get one. Most people do not bother, and it is the single most useful thing you can do: it usually means a document needs fixing, and fixing it helps everyone.
* **Read** [**Getting better results**](/en/for-everyone/getting-better-results.md) once you have enough experience for it to mean something.
